Beyoncé - the top-selling artist of the decade

Beyoncé is the top-selling artist of the decade, according to the Recording Industry Association of America.

The organisation has released a compilation of its awards from 2000 through 2009 and the multi-Grammy winning artist (she picked up more than a handful of gongs this year), and former Destiny’s Child frontwoman, was ahead of the pack with a whopping 64 certifications for albums, ringtones, and music videos. Soaring above the rest were also The Eagles, besting all other groups in total gold and platinum awards, while the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson, led male solo artists.

A gold award is presented when the sales figures reach at least 500,000 albums or ringtones, while platinum status is attained once an artist reaches the 1 million mark. “We’ve seen a decade of major music milestones and extraordinary artist achievements,” the chairman and CEO of RIAA said. “The names, songs and albums on our list are the decade’s best...”

According to The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), iconic superstar Beyonce, is the artist with the most total certifications over the past decade, with a total of 64. The certifications include cumulative album, digital song, master ringtone, and music video certifications. Beyonce also has the most master ringtone certifications for a female solo artist with 19 and the highest certified master ringtone for a female artist with "Irreplaceable" at 3x multi-Platinum. She received her very first Gold album award for her Grammy® Award winning debut solo album, "Dangerously in Love" on July 29, 2003. "Dangerously in Love" is currently 4x multi-platinum.

Last month, Beyonce broke the record for most Grammy® wins by a female artist in a single year taking home six awards, including "Song of the Year" (for "Single Ladies"). The wins brought her career Grammy® total up to 16 (13 as a solo artist and 3 with Destiny's Child.)
